Welcome to Sandstone Yoga & Pilates!
Please do have a look through our FAQ's. Many of your questions will be answered here, but please do get in touch if you need any advice.
What will Yoga & Pilates do for me?
Yoga can help to benefit countless conditions, ranging from back ache and sports injuries to stress and difficulty sleeping. Pilates is similar but tends to be more rapid and focused on developing the core muscles. Both are great ways to tone up, work on your flexibility, relax, recharge and rebalance your mind and body.
I have never done Yoga or Pilates before, is that a problem?
Not at all. We are committed to non-competitive practice. That means all of our main classes are absolutely suitable for beginners. Go at your own pace, in your own time. Our teachers are here to help you grow and improve, whether you’re a novice or a veteran.
I'm not sure which class is best for me?
We offer a wide varierty of classes to suit everyones tastes. A full list of our classes and their descriptions can be found here.
If you are still unsure, please do not hestitate to contact us for a chat on 01922 277684 or via email here
Can you be too old? ...or too young?
Not really! We run special classes for babies, toddlers and school kids. The classes on our schedule are for everyone over the age of 14 and are attended from people of all ages. Our oldest customers are well into their 80s and going strong!
But what if I'm not very flexible?
Yoga and Pilates are designed to help develop better flexibility and if you stick with it, your flexibility will improve. Some people are very flexible and some are not, but that really, really doesn’t matter – our classes are for everyone. You don’t have to be flexible to enjoy Yoga & Pilates.
What do I need to bring?
You will need a Yoga mat (we also sell them at the studio from £13.99, we also have mat hire for a £1). Please bring a drink (we suggest water) with you to remain hydrated. If you are attending a Yoga Class we suggest bringing socks and a blanket or an extra layer for the relaxtion element of the class where your body temperature will drop slightly.
Wear comfortable clothing which gives you room to stretch. Shorts & t-shirts are probably best for Hot Yoga and Pilates, along with a towel.
Should I eat directly before class?
It’s up to you, but we find most people avoid eating a large meal immediately before class. You could have fruit or light snacks directly before our classes if you need to. We’d ask you not to eat during classes – but make sure you have enough to drink with you.
Will Yoga and Pilates help my fitness and/or weightloss?
As part of a healthy lifestyle, our physical classes will help improve flexibility, strength and body composition…. And can burn quite a lot of calories! Hot Yoga can be particularly beneficial for weight loss as it increases your metabolic rate.
What's Hot Yoga about?
Some people like classes in a warmer room and our classes are at temperatures of up to 35C which allows muscles to stretch more deeply and encourages you to sweat – without being uncomfortably hot. It helps get rid of body toxins and can leave you feeling great!
Is Yoga religious?
Yoga has its origins in India and has a spiritual heritage. But yoga is not a religious practice, a faith or part of any religion and all sorts of people enjoy yoga. Some people feel it is ‘spiritual’ but what you take out of it and how you approach it really is up to you.
How often should I practice Yoga and Pilates?
Like anything, the more effort you put in the more you will get out of it. Most people come to at least one class a week. Many people practice outside of our classes as well. There’s certainly no problem coming to a number of classes each week – you need to follow what your body tells you about how much and how often. But if in doubt, just ask.
What else do I need to know?
Our classes start on time and you will need to arrive around 10 minutes early to check-in at reception, choose your place within the studio room and relax a little.
There are hooks for coats and a place for shoes outside the studio
Please remember to switch off your mobile phone!
Please do not chat through the class – or chew gum.
Listen to your body and take a break at any time you need it by sitting or lying down.
Please leave the room quietly after your class as some people use that time for quiet meditation.
If you feel pain or discomfort at any time, please tell your teacher.
Can I pre-book classes?
Yes you can. Here!
Our classes often book up in advance. We ask that all customers that cannot attend their pre-booked classes to please cancel their bookings online. This allows any customers on the class waiting list to book their place. Your ability to book online may be removed if you book classes and do not attend.
